Company Profile - Cansco Well Control

May 2012

First established in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1986 to service the oil and gas drilling industry with rental tools and equipment, as well as rig equipment repair services, Cansco Well Control has continued to expand its international focus by serving customers in many of the major oil and gas provinces throughout the world.

In 1992, Cansco took its first step in establishing a permanent position in the Middle East market by opening a district office in Dubai, the UAE. By 2002, Cansco’s Dubai facilities had increased to include a rental tool facility, however, the market demanded more and Cansco responded with a new purpose-built rental tool service and warehouse facility in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 3, which opened in 2007.

Cansco reinforced its commitment to the Middle East market by moving its head office to Dubai in 2008. In 2009, Cansco intensified its focus on the supply of well control equipment and related services. The company specialises only on the well control segment of the oil and gas industry, boasting a large fleet of original equipment manufacturer-certified equipment and support facilities that are second to none in the Middle East region.

The safety critical nature of well control equipment demands the highest possible levels of integrity assurance for which Cansco provides verification inspection and testing services for customer equipment in the field and at the company’s facilities. Rig Audits, equipment servicing and testing, equipment installation and removal, as well as shear testing are among the technical assurance services routinely provided by Cansco.

Oil and gas development in Kurdistan Region of Iraq has been growing rapidly in recent times, and Cansco has been involved in many of the drilling projects in terms of supporting contractors and operators in this frontier environment. In order to better address some of the drilling project challenges that are present in the region, the company is establishing a local field support unit where a range of blow out preventer equipment (BOPE), together with service support tools and equipment, personnel and spares will be more readily available to its customers in the Kurdistan Region.

The field support unit will enhance response both to normal BOPE operational needs and to urgent requirements for well emergencies. The local facility is backed up by Cansco’s main support facility in Dubai where its extensive equipment and part inventories, together with well established original equipment manufacturer-certified equipment supply and repair workshop relationships provide the very best levels of response assurance. With much depending on the integrity of BOPE at every well site, Cansco aims to be an essential partner to its customers in reducing well site risk. Cansco believes that such is the importance of BOPE being treated prioritized in terms of well site integrity that the industry should have the option for BOPE and related services to be contracted directly from a specialist such as Cansco.
